How texting works

Guests opt in themselves

HeadOnOver helps a host, a person planning a private social event such as a birthday party, family dinner, or shower, invite guests and collect RSVPs. HeadOnOver texts a guest only after that guest asks for texts on their own invitation page. A number a host types in is never texted by HeadOnOver on its own.

1. The host sends each guest a private invitation link, by email through HeadOnOver or as a text from the host’s own phone.
2. The guest opens their invitation. Under the RSVP form is an optional section, “Get reminders by text?”, with a mobile number and an unchecked box. Replying to the invitation never requires it.
3. Only if the guest ticks the box and presses “Turn on text reminders” does HeadOnOver record their consent (the number, the exact wording shown, and the time) and send one confirmation text.

Next to the checkbox, the guest sees (with the event and host filled in):

“Text me reminders and updates about Emma’s 10th Birthday from HeadOnOver, on behalf of Sarah. Up to 5 messages for this event. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to stop. Consent is not required to RSVP.”

It links to these text message terms and our privacy policy. Consent is separate from the RSVP and from any other agreement.

The messages

The confirmation sent right after a guest opts in:

An event change or cancellation:

Texts are about that one event only: a confirmation, reminders, important changes or a cancellation, and a waitlist notice if a spot opens. Up to 5 messages per event. We never send marketing or promotional texts. Msg & data rates may apply.

Stop and help

Reply STOP (also STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, OPTOUT, or REVOKE) at any time. HeadOnOver sends one confirmation and then no more texts to that number from any host; no host can override it. Guests can also turn texts off on their invitation page. Reply START (or UNSTOP, SUBSCRIBE) to opt back in. Reply HELP or INFO and we reply with what HeadOnOver is and how to reach us at support@headonover.com.

Your number stays private

Mobile numbers and text-message opt-in data are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes, and are never sold. Numbers are used only to deliver the messages a guest asked for about that event.
