When you already keep in touch by text, that’s where a party invitation belongs. HeadOnOver writes a personal invitation text for each household, with its own link to the details and RSVP form, and you send it from your phone with one tap. Guests don’t need to join a group thread or create an account.

Not sure a text is the right format? We cover that in is it rude to send invitations by text?, and in why group texts fail as party invitations we explain why one message per household works better than a shared thread.

How texting the invitations works

On your event page, Text invite opens Messages on your phone with the guest’s invitation already written:

Hi Maria! Sarah here. You’re invited to Emma’s 10th Birthday, Sun Jun 6 · 2 PM. Details and RSVP: (private link)

Press send, come back, and the next guest is ready. Because it comes from your number, guests know exactly who it’s from. Paste the link and most phones show a preview card with your invitation picture.

Guests with an email address can get the invitation by email from HeadOnOver instead, with one-tap Going / Maybe / Can’t make it buttons. For a flyer or a class group chat, share one RSVP link or QR code and match replies to your list.

What guests do

The link opens the date, time, place, your note, and any cover photo you added. Guests choose Going, Maybe, or Can’t make it. Guests who choose Going enter their adult and child counts before submitting the form.

The RSVP happens on that page; replying “yes” to your text doesn’t submit an RSVP (though you can record a reply someone texts you). Guests can return to their link to update their answer while responses are open.

Text reminders, only if guests want them

On their invitation page, guests can tick an optional box to get reminders and updates about your event by text from HeadOnOver: up to 5 messages, about that event only, with STOP to end them. HeadOnOver never texts a number just because you added it. See how texting works.

What you see

  • Submitted RSVPs and totals for the adults and children marked Going.
  • Who you’ve texted and who still needs an invitation.
  • Pending replies, so you can follow up before making final plans.
  • Controls to send reminders, notify guests of important changes, or cancel the event.

An unanswered invitation isn’t an acceptance. Use the submitted RSVP counts as your current plan, then check with guests whose answers you still need.

Remind guests when you choose

You decide when to send a reminder. It goes by text to guests who asked for texts and by email to the rest, and skips anyone who already answered, including Maybe or Can’t make it. Reminders don’t run automatically.

Privacy

Guests don’t see each other’s numbers. Each household’s link can be forwarded, though, so ask recipients to keep it private. Learn more about private invitations.
